Kingussie is an ideal spot for day trips in any direction - Inverness (42 miles), Perth (70 miles), Ben Nevis and Fort William (48 miles) and the Moray Firth area, and a convenient stop over for journeys to and from the Orkney Islands, Sutherland and Caithness. We are close to Aviemore, Newtonmore, and Boat of Garten for Osprey watching, and the Cairngorm Mountain Range. This area is extremely popular for winter sports. There are numerous dining and entertainment establishments (some also dog friendly), serving fresh Highland produce, along with local craft and gift shops, within walking distance of the hotel.
The area is rich in wildlife, including deer, golden eagle, red squirrel, and, with a bit of luck, otter; and with LOT of luck, the elusive Scottish wildcat. We on the same road as Ruthven Barracks, and the skies locally are light pollution free, great for the astronomer. The scenery in the immediate area is magnificent, a photographers dream.
Culloden Battlefield is within an hours drive, as is Blair Atholl and its castle, the Dalwhinnie distillery, the headwaters of the River Spey, the Highland Wildlife Park, and many other local attractions.
